Friends of the Church
At a Public Consultation meeting held at Pulford St Mary’s Church in July 2026, the Parochial Church Council announced plans to start the process for closing the church building for regular worship. This meeting was attended by the Archdeacon of Chester, the incumbent Reverend, representatives from the Church Commissioners and the Diocesan Advisory Committee (DAC) together with many local residents.
The main reasons given for the planned closure were the large annual funding deficit due to the dwindling local congregation, the difficulty in maintaining 2 listed churches within the parish, the need for a new boiler and roof repairs in Pulford and its lack of toilet facilities limiting use of the church for other activities.
Following this meeting the Parish Council set up a group called The Friends of Pulford St. Mary’s Church with the intention of finding ways to maintain the church as a place of worship.
